Blackberry Ginger Fizz

Sigh, oh sigh.  The doctors pretty much have me off of booze completely.  At first, I was a bit sad, as it seems so many social activities - and I'm a social person! - center around drinking.  Guess what?  You find out really quickly who your friends are.

I'm reminded of when I gave up drinking when I was pursuing a dance career, and I thought it was going to be a big deal for my friends.  Guess what?  It wasn't - turns out some of the best friends I've ever made were in Huntington Beach, CA.

I used my handy-dandy Soda Stream to make my soda water, but feel free just to pick up a bottle at the store.

Blackberry Ginger Fizz

-  1 c. sugar

- 1 c. water

- 1 slice of ginger

- 5 blackberries

- club soda or sparkling water

Put the sugar and water in a pot.  Heat it (never boiling) until the sugar dissolves.  Add the ginger and cool it completely.  Remember this process - you can omit the ginger, or add different flavors to other syrups.

Once the simple syrup is cooled, put 1 oz. in the bottom of a glass.  Add the blackberries and muddle them; aka squish them up in the simple syrup.  Top with the club soda.
