Ginger Infused Martini

I had a friend visiting for a few days, and we kicked off her visit with a visit to Ping Pong, a dim sum restaurant in Chinatown here in D.C.  They have an amazing specialty cocktail menu - I swear they have an entire herb garden behind the bar.  I think I got inspired to make fun cocktails at home, which is something I just don't normally do when I'm home alone.  Pouring a glass of wine for myself while I cook?  Totally in.  Making a yummy cocktail alone?  Hmmmm....  I think I need to have people over more often.

Ginger Infused Martini

- 1 1/2 oz. citrus flavored vodka
- 3/4 oz. chilled sake
- 2 oz. crisp white wine
- 1 T. ginger-vanilla simple syrup
- a few grates of fresh ginger
- 2 very thin slices of jalapeno

To make the simple syrup, bring equal parts of water and sugar to a simmer.  Add the seeds from one vanilla bean and 1/4-in. piece of ginger.  Simmer for ten minutes and then chill completely.

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Shake vigorously and strain into martini glasses.  Garnish with the jalapeno slices.
