Spice in the City

See, I told you I needed to have people over more often for cocktails.  My friend Alisa and I stopped for a late lunch/early dinner at a new sushi restaurant that opened up in my neighborhood, and the fabulous bartender was kind enough to buy us a shot of Irish whiskey (oh, Jameson, the bartender shot of D.C.), so when we decided to have an after-dinner drink at my house, it seemed smart to stay in the whiskey family.

Why Spice in the City you ask?  Well, because this is a spiced-up version of a Manhattan.

Spice in the City

- 1 1/2 oz. good bourbon (I used Maker's Mark)
- pinch of cayenne
- pinch of cardamom
- pinch of coriander
- 1 oz. passionfruit juice
- 1/2 tsp. honey
- 2-in. piece of orange peel

Combine everything but the orange peel in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass.  Garnish with the orange twist, wiping it on the rim of the glass before dropping it into the cocktail.
